So close to being edumacated…

So, I am finally reaching a major mile marker in the road of life! If I can make it through school through spring break, it is all downhill from there towards getting my BS! After that I will still have to go to school in the spring and fall term, but my credit load and the difficulty of classes required will drop significantly, as they are mostly bac-core classes required by the university, and it should be a breeze!

Its an exciting time for me, not that a BS is an incredible achievement, but there aren’t exactly a lot of people around me who can say the same. I also feel that I have learned a lot in a field that I am very interested in, as well as information that I feel that i can apply to situations around me every day.

Here is a video that I posted on Facebook a while back, but I am going to post it here as well as it is school related. This is a project that I participated in last year for a design class. The project was the project assigned for ASME competition last year as well, and involved designing and building a machine that can sort recyclables automatically. The recyclables were all containers, and consisted of Plastic, Glass, Aluminum, and Tin. For the class, what you see was completed from design to beta build in approximately 7 weeks. Though our machine did not perform perfectly, as you can see it required some lining up before operation, it did actually sort very well!

The mechanisms involved included using the height of plastic containers to initially drop them out from the machine, a brush that would then draw light material such as aluminum out from the turnstyle, after which heavy material such as glass fell directly into a bin, and finally tin was peeled off of the turnstyle as the turnstyle is magnetized and the tin sticks to it until physically peeled off.

I am the guy that does most of the talking… :)
